When you make the decision to learn the Chinese language, you are about to undertake a very exciting experience. Since this language is vastly different from any other, you have to be sure that the course you have chosen is the right one for the job. How can you be sure that you have made the right selection? This site has been erected so that we may share our experience with anyone who wants to learn to speak Chinese.

Rocket Chinese™ is the program that I have reviewed. It is produced by a company called Rocket Language Ltd. This particular package was written by Lin Ping who is a native of China. This company also produces high quality language learning courses such as French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and American Sign Language.

Thirty-one audio tracks make up the first module. After first listening, you will be able to speak some basic Chinese words. You are instructed in conversational Chinese which means that you will be able to communicate with native Chinese speakers as you travel throughout the country. You will feel that you are in a comfort zone as you ask for directions, order in restaurants, etc.

Actual transcripts of the audios are included in the package. This was especially helpful as I followed along. Each audio lasts approximately 25 minutes. Therefore, a full module contains about 14 hours of content. As you utilize this method, you will be able to absorb and speak Chinese quickly. It seems like fourteen hours is a long time, but as you use the audio tracks time goes by very effortlessly and quickly.

Rocket Chinese™ includes software that makes learning easy and fun. The first software application is termed MegaVocab™.

This software contains a vocabulary recognition tool. This was found to be very helpful when I began my studies. You simply run through a series of words and learn by way of repetition as well as associating the word with a picture. This same concept is used with flashcards today.

The software has 1,000 pictures and words built into it. However, it allows you to add more pictures and words of your own choice as you advance through the Rocket Chinese™ program.

Once I began to learn the vocabulary, I then went on to the MegaAudio™ software. I then felt confident that I was on the right track.

Exercises are provided within the software that both test and improve your recognition of the spoken words. You are provided with a score for each exercise so your progress is always being measured.

In my opinion, this software was fun to use. With Chinese, it is one thing to learn the vocabulary. However, trying to understand the language when it is spoken is a different matter altogether. In my opinion, this is where the Rocket Chinese™ program excels while other programs fall by the wayside.

A very cool aspect of the Rocket Chinese™ program is that it is not simply an introductory course. When it was designed, it was assumed that the student had no previous knowledge when beginning the Chinese language. This program caters to the advanced student as well. This added to the overall value of the program as I would not have to worry about buying a more advanced course as I progressed.

A most impressive part of this course is the ‘members’ only forum’ where you can not only ask questions but can communicate with other peers studying the same language as well as the Rocket Language online instructors. In my opinion, this forum made the cost of this the Rocket Chinese™ program a real bargain. If you happen to get stuck on something, you can always turn to the forum for help.

It was difficult finding a Chinese course which was worth my investment of money and time. However, the cost of this program was a real surprise. The Rocket Chinese™ program is offered as an easy downloadable format. When I chose this option, I was able to buy this course for just under $100. This course is also offered on a set of CDs, but you will have to pay about $300 if you go this route. If you are on a budget, I would not recommend the latter method. I was quite satisfied with the downloadable version as I simply burned the material to my own CDs and was able to listen in my car. Some of the audio tracks were even downloaded to my ipod. However, I used my computer to take most of this course.
